August 04, 2003 By: Norma Cowie A computer chip is what makes your prepaid wireless phone work!Have you ever wondered what people are talking about when they say prepaid wireless phones. Well, I certainly did. So I did a little research and what I found it means the same as having a prepaid wireless cell phone. Wireless is the former name used for radio. That was because there were no wires, the information was sent over airwaves or soundwaves to a receiver. Today, we do not even think about it because we have cell phones which are receiving signals all the time. Now because of technology keeping track of our every phone call, we can have prepaid wireless. >P> How it works is you purchase a cell phone and then have a chip put in which has all your information. You can dial a number which will download the amount of minutes you want to use. The cost is charged to your credit card. Then the chip keeps track of how long you speak which is the prepaid wireless way. When you have used up all your time, you receive a beep and you call the number and get extra minutes. One of the benefits of prepaid wireless is that you can take the chip out of one cell phone and put it in another easily and without cost. It is your chip which makes the difference. It keeps track of the amount of time you have used up.
