Are wireless phones misunderstood?

You cannot walk down a mall or go into any store and you will see wireless phones here. I originally thought it was another new name being used for a cell phone. What I found out is the term is not exactly correct.

Before the radio was known as the radio, it was know as a wireless. Therefore, the term wireless is being used to acknowledge the use of radio waves. Most cellphones do not use radio waves. They use satellite connections. Wireless phones would be using radio waves.

Therefore the term wireless phones should mean that it uses the new technology of using radio waves. It appears though the term is being used as the latest in word. Rather than mobile, portable or cell, it is now wireless. I wonder what the next term will be?

By understanding that wireless means radio waves and using a broadband,I wonder how the advertisers get away with advertising normal cellphones by saying wireless phones available here. It seems the term wireless phones is not being used in an accurate way. No doubt though the term will remain with us and the actual meaning will be totally lost in time. Or, in the future we will use the radio broad band waves for our telephone calls.
