March 18, 2005 By: Alan Zunec Big cell phonesGoing retro with big cell phones? A big cell phone was something you might have seen in the early nineties. The big mobile phones look nothing like the slim and sleek wireless phone designs that you see today. Some fashionistas actually think that big wireless phones will make a comeback. This retro-style if brought back could actually be a bit harzardess along with being huge and clunky. The big mobile phones can actually be found on ebay and are listed as brick phones. These brick phones from back in the day actually used to need to have a giant suitcase attached to them in order to function. A brick phone is large, awkward, and two-handed. This type of wireless phone could definitely not be used in the same convenient way that we use cell phones today. Not only were these “brick phones”, big wireless phones, or big mobile phones boxy, but also they were rectangular and had a massive antenna. Back in the day a big wireless phone would draw a lot of power. For a mobile phone to draw the amount of power that it did would pose as a problem. It posed potential interference amongst the cellular towers alike. Whereas today’s smaller and sleeker phones pose a less significant threat. To bring back a big wireless phone may be more of a hassle than a retro-style. The novelty may soon wear off when you realize that using a mobile phone with one hand is in fact a great convenience and invention. But if this is something you need to bring back then the best thing might be to take a visit to ebay and look up brick phones or brick phone. Regardless of what you decide remember that these are two-handed, boxy and massive inventions with large antennas and could be awkward.
